Mainstream pop music. I don't care for it too much, but it's somewhat intriguing. Intriguing because there's a huge lack of talent, and at the same time tonnes of it. But it seems to be concentrated in a couple specific areas that do not actually represent the bulk of what consumers hear, producing and songwriting. Music producers are really skilled at bringing a song to life, I mean without them, it might as well be just a guy/girl singing with no accompaniment. And as for songwriters, well, it depends. Some are good with melodies but then come up with trash lyrics that are repeated over and over, and some are amazing with lyrics but can't quite come up with a tune, and then there's the extremes and everything in between.
Unfortunately, many mainstream pop artists have nothing more to offer than maybe a pretty face. And although music producers can do many things, they can't cover up a lack of talent and make it sound decent, no matter how hard they try. There are a few legitimately talented pop artists, though, and that's a refreshing change.
It's different if you venture out of the mainstream stuff, though. There are way too many talented artists on the internet and local bands that aren't anywhere near famous. I follow a few of them that are to my tastes, and I recognise and acknowledge the talent of the ones that aren't.
Ahh, music. A strange anomaly, music is.
